This is an open access, community network of roboticists in the West of England – for everyone interested in researching, developing or deploying Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) technologies, products and services. We organise meetings, events and networking for the region’s RAS community and welcome individuals from all RAS backgrounds, disciplines and interests.

We are delighted to bring to you our two speakers for the evening:
An internationally recognised designer, Sebastian Conran majored in Sciences at school, then studied Industrial Design Engineering at Central St. Martins, when he also worked with The Clash designing clothing, record sleeves and posters. He started his professional career at Wolff Olins designing branding for the likes of Shell and Pilkington Glass, before moving on to lead hard-goods merchandise design at Mothercare. His career has covered many fields of industry including the design of the last interior for Concorde. In 1986 he founded Sebastian Conran Associates design studio, which he continues to lead.
Dr Simon Astwood BEng (Hons) PhD MIET
Simon is a digital manufacturing specialist with 15 years’ experience in the aerospace & defence industry. He has been responsible for developing automated composite deposition systems and complex composite tooling solutions. He has led research in the fields of design for manufacture of aerospace structures and augmented reality deployed in manufacturing environments within Airbus Group.
Simon is now employed by the National Composites Centre as the engineering capability manager for manufacturing. He sits on the advisory board for the Aerospace Technology Institute Processes and Tools group, and holds a Research Fellow Post at Cranfield University.
